Writer Notes: I’ve decided to go ahead and post this…obviously 😉 Umm…there’s really nothing to expound except ye be warned because this chapter may UPset you a little bit.
Warnings: hurtful/horrible situation, tears, cute/kind guy, arguing, talking about “a not ready for this situation” situation, and HOLY CRAP YOU FORGOT!
“Well, your stats are amazing and your shots even better, we would like to hire you for our photography position but,” the man said. “We can’t for obvious reasons.” he looked her up and down.
“My clothes?” Kat questioned. “I have a lot of different options.”
“No,” he shook his head. “Our magazine is about health and your…situation doesn’t not reflect our directive.”
People could be cruel. Kat knew this. She had gone from one job interview to another to be denied, but this time…it had hit home and she couldn’t take it.
She had been healthy once, but that had attracted a different breed of evil and she sabbotaged herself to keep them at bay.
“Are you all right?”
“NO! PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE!” Kat cried.
“Holy crap I’m sorry!” he said. “I didn’t mean to scare you!”
Kat calmed down a bit, but this stranger did not leave. He had to make sure she was ok.
“Yeah, this system sucks.” he said. “But what are we gonna do?”
She shrugged as they walked along. Talking to him had helped a little bit, but he hadn’t got any information out of her of why she was so upset. He seemed generous enough…at least enough to make sure a total stranger was ok.
But Kat hadn’t even looked at his face. She just stared at his chest when she talked.
Apart of it was just her usual shyness, but…she was a little bit scared to see what was in his face.
“HEY KAT!” she heard from behind.
“SHALANAE!” Kat shouted.
“How funny meeting you here!” the girl laughed.
Shalanae looked at the guy behind Kat and smiled. “And who’s this?” she asked.
“Oh…ummm…” Kat realized she didn’t even know his name.
“Just someone helping out.” he said. “I hope you feel better.”
“Oh yes, thank you so much.” Kat smiled and then let her eyes drift up.
“JACK!” Peppermint called. “I’m home!”
“You won’t believe all the crazy sales going on at the square!”
“What’s going on?”
“Fine! Whatever! Do what you want, Dewy!” Jack shouted. “Go on! Just go right back down that path and maybe I won’t pick you up this time! Then what, Dewy? Then what will you do?!”
“Just accept the fact that I can handle this myself!” Dewy replied. “I don’t need you anymore!”
“Wow.” Jack shook his head.
“Uh oh…” Pmint muttered.
They were both surprised that he walked away.
“Again, what’s going on?” Peppermint asked.
Dewy sighed. “He just can’t get his head around me having free will.”
“Well, I’ll go fix your mess.” Peppermint said. “And I’m charging you ten bucks too!”
“Put it on my tab.” Dewy smiled.
“So…” Pmint began. “That was intense. You ok?”
“Yeah.” Jack sighed. “I’ll be fine.”
Peppermint knew her brother. He wasn’t fine. He was going insane. Between Peppermint’s surprise pregnancy, to Toulouse trouble, and Dewy…doing whatever he was doing…Jack was unraveling a little bit. It was a lot of pressure to take on by himself, but Jack would do it. He didn’t want anyone else struggling with him.
“So sales on the square?” Jack smiled uneasily. “How was that?”
“Madness.” she replied. “But you better get ready.”
“For what?” he asked.
“You forgot?” the surprise was deeply imbedding into Pmint’s voice. “Angel and Rez’s tonight?”
“Oh shit, that’s tonight?!”
